What You DO Know Will Hurt You By Gary Vurnum "It's not what you know,
it's who you know". This statement is fast becoming
one of the most commonly used phrases in the 21st Century. Why? Its logic applies in whatever
you do, whether you are trying to make a success in your internet business or
you want a TV fixed. The scary thing is that, although
it seems to make sense, it gives the impression that you don't need to be
knowledgeable to 'get on'. Far from it. It's the people who
have and USE their knowledge that are successful. The Internet has speeded up
the process considerably...but it's still true that the people who win are
the ones who have found a way to play the game on their own terms. These people have risen to
wealth and power, not through who they know, but from how they have applied
what they know. You and I can join them. Now
that I've told you how to do it - within a few years you can be one of them.
The problem for the vast majority of people is the 'few years' part of that
last sentence. They don't understand that it
has probably taken them years (even decades) to become this poor or
unsuccessful - so why should it only take days or weeks to turn their life
around? You are not suddenly going to
give up your four hours in front of the TV every night in order to read a
book on personal development, are you? That's the difference between
those who have made it...and those who complain about why they haven't. YOU have the ability to be a
success - but only if YOU decide that you want it badly enough. Some of the most successful
people on the Internet are ex-pizza delivery boys, ex-truck drivers, or even
ex-physiotherapists. Just because someone was in a
'dead-end' job for 10 years didn't mean that they didn't have the capacity
within them to be a success. More than ever...we all have
role models of ordinary people achieving extraordinary things. You can follow
them...but you have to be committed. DECIDE to be a success. Don't
wait until something happens that jolts you into making this decision. I only
decided that there was no way back after my son was born. For others, it was
the threat of bankruptcy, or because of ill health. The hardest part of any race is
the beginning. Once you are 'up and running' you will find that things become
easier...make more sense...and generally 'perform' better. So...decide TODAY that you will
commit yourself to expanding your knowledge every single day. I don't mean
read another newspaper (that's yesterday's news), or watch more TV
programmes. I mean...read a book, listen to
a tape, or start a course. Just the act of starting something is a step in
the right direction. But what should you learn first? What you should learn first is
to UNLEARN some of those things that you do...those things that you KNOW
aren't helping you achieve what you want. So...in plain English... Start focusing on the QUALITY of
your actions and not the QUANTITY. How successful your life could
be is in direct proportion to: - The QUALITY of your
relationships - The QUALITY of your knowledge - The QUALITY of your effort - The QUALITY of your output - The QUALITY of your attitude ...and finally...and this is the
most important of them all: - The QUALITY of your thoughts "Yeah, but all this 'woolly'
stuff won't make me rich...or get me a pay rise...or help me get on better
with my family", I know you're thinking. It's an easy mistake to make - I
know - I did it myself for too many years to remember. But (and this may be difficult
for you to accept), it IS really that simple. The quality of your life is the
platform upon which you can build your future. If you're now looking to me to
give you specific instructions about how to improve the quality of these
things...then I'm going to disappoint you. You see...these things that you
can't quite quantify or 'put your finger on' have been the foundation for
practically every successful person that ever lived. My definition of quality in each
of those areas will certainly be different from yours - and my reasons and
motivation will be nothing like what yours will be. I'll apologise in advance...it
frustrates me when I see so many 'unfulfilled' people. It almost as if these people are
trying to fill a bucket with a hole in it full of water. They can't understand why they
are losing the water because...although they see the hole...they can't be
bothered to plug it. They assume that only a
carpenter can fix it - when all it needs is something that will cover the
hole sufficiently until they do find a carpenter. Is your life like that? Are you letting your success
gush out of your life...when a few minor changes in QUALITY can turn it into
a little drip until you get back on your feet? It's no use trying to fill up
the bucket more quickly – it will always just tumble out of the bottom and
seep into the ground never to be seen again. It's never too late to change -
believe me - all you need to do to plug the gaps in your life...and focus on
how you can better use the tools that you have already got. Concentrate on improving those
things that are important to you...and you will find that the more
'quantifiable' things will begin to fall into place more easily. It's happened for me - so why
not you? To Our Success! Gary Vurnum has quit his full-time job to devote himself
to his family and his self-development. His life turned around after the
birth of his severely disabled son, and he now wants to share with others the
tools he used to remain positive during the worst time of his life. His
